CEO of Corrections Corporation of America, the first and largest private corrections company in the country, so he profits when non-violent offenders are jailed, and the longer the sentances the more he makes. CCA Houses 68,000 inmates in over 75 facilities in the United States, Puerto Rico, Australia and the UK.

Ferguson was chosen as president and CEO of CCA and Prison Realty Trust in August of 2000 when the companies merged.

CCA formerly contracted Sodexho as their main source of food service in prison. When Sodexho divested from serving food in American prisons, it purchased from CCA the Corrections Corporation of Australia, and UK Detention Services. Sodexho is also commonly used by dining services at America's public universities.
